Ombudsman withdraws his membership of EOI

On Friday, September 16, ombudsman Juris Jansons sent a letter to the European Ombudsman Institute (EOI), informing about his withdrawal from this organization.

Today, on August 17, Deputy Ombudsman Ineta Piļāne, Legal counsellors of the Civil and Political Rights Division Matīss Malojlo and Santa Tivaņenkova and Head of Communication and International Cooperation Division Ruta Siliņa met with representatives of the United States of America (USA) Embassy in Latvia - Sophia Ashley and Kristīne Antužāne.

Today, on 8 August, Santa Tivaņenkova, legal counsellor of the Civil and Political Rights Division and Zanda Rūsiņa, legal counsellor of the Prevention Division, met with representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representation for the Nordic and Baltic Countries — associate legal officer Kari Käsper and senior external relations associate Anna Audere.

Representatives of the Ombudsman’s Office visit border control posts in Terehova and Grebņeva

On Tuesday, July 19, Deputy Ombudsman Ineta Piļāne, together with other representatives of the Ombudsman’s Office, visited the border control posts in Terehova and Grebņeva. The visit was carried out in response to information received about a growing number of people from Ukraine who are entering Latvia from Russia, with the aim to transit through Latvia to reach other destinations in Europe.

Launch of the new Ombudsman’s Office website – now more accessible and user-friendly

After an extensive period of research and development, the new Ombudsman’s Office website www.tiesibsargs.lv was launched on July 20. The new website is not only more accessible to people with disabilities, but also more user-friendly for every visitor of the website. The website was developed in cooperation with digital accessibility experts and users.
