Children’s Right to Education

Everyone has the right to good quality and inclusive education. The Education Law stipulates that in Latvia every child has a duty to acquire pre-school preparation and basic education, moreover, the Constitution guarantees state-funded primary education and secondary education. Each local government has a duty to provide children with an opportunity to obtain pre-school education and basic education in the local government educational institution closest to the place of residence of the child, to provide young people with an opportunity to obtain secondary education, as well as to provide an opportunity to implement interest education and support extracurricular events, including children’s camps. The child has a duty to learn according to their level of physical and mental development.
